Punjab’s Love Affair with Guns: Tufang’s Story
The movie “Tufang,” released in July of this year, delves into a pressing issue in Punjab: the growing prevalence of gun culture. Punjab, a state rich in religious and cultural heritage, has a deep history of producing renowned soldiers who have defended the land and the nation. Guns have played a significant role in this heritage, passed down through generations as a source of pride. However, in recent times, owning guns has evolved into a status symbol and a trend, with people flaunting them at public gatherings and weddings. “Tufang” sheds light on this issue.
The film, titled “Tufang” (meaning a long-barrel rifle in Persian), follows the story of Arjan (Guri), the owner of a family-run gun store. He also produces YouTube videos discussing various firearms, emphasizing that his aim is to provide knowledge about Punjab’s history to adults, without any negative connotations. Alongside Arjan is Deep (Rukshaar Dhillon), who operates an IELTS center and seeks revenge against three men for personal reasons. To exact her vengeance, she turns to Arjan’s videos to learn about guns and their use. Fate brings them together, with Arjan initially opposing Deep’s plan. However, upon understanding her motives, he agrees to help her seek retribution.
“Tufang” is now available for streaming exclusively on the Chaupal OTT platform.
