The Situation of Theatres during the Pandemic and after Lockdown

The Covid-19 pandemic hit theatres hard and they were shut for over seven months worldwide. Even the Australian government decided to give $100 to each theatre audience to watch the movie in the theatre as a step to revive the cinema. In India, Finally, at the beginning of October, the government, under its Unlock 5.0 guidelines, allowed theatres outside the containment zones to open from October 15. The government also issued a fresh standard operating procedure and all multiplexes and single-screen operators were required to adhere to it.

Although the cinema halls were reopened, the audience seems to be thin. This must be revived soon. The Indian Govt. makes many efforts towards this.

Many movie filmmakers were left with a bunch of ready-to-release films at the theatre, gave up the hope of its theatre release, and put their movies to OTT Platforms. Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmam Khurana ‘s ‘Gulabo sitabo’ and Late Actor Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghvi’s ‘Dil Bechara ‘were among such movies which were released on OTT Platforms.

Under such conditions, the producers are opting for more web content than releasing their projects on big screens and the web series greys are going high among the audience in the lockdown. Therefore Punjabi movie director and producer Smeep Kang also decided to come up with his first-ever web series ‘ki Banu Punia Da’ starring Babbal Rai and Jaswinder Bhalla as the main character. The shooting of the web series has already started at the beginning of the year and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of the year. Being a Smeep Kang productions project, the web series is much awaited by his fans and is expected to release at the end of the year.
