24 Years Old Nikhil Sharma Dies After Falling Into Open Pothole in Chandigarh
24-Year-Old Nikhil Sharma Loses His Life After Falling Into Unbarricaded Road Excavation; Questions Raised Over Administrative Negligence
The tragic death of 24-year-old Nikhil Sharma on November 5 has once again exposed serious concerns over public safety and administrative negligence. Nikhil lost his life after his motorcycle plunged into an open excavation pit while he was returning home. The incident reportedly occurred due to the absence of proper barricading, reflectors, warning signs or other essential safety measures around the excavation site.
At just 24, Nikhil had his entire life ahead of him. His untimely death has left his family devastated and raised troubling questions about the accountability of the authorities, Municipal Corporation and contractor responsible for the ongoing civic work.
What makes the incident even more concerning is that the necessary safety arrangements, including barricades and warning signs, were reportedly installed only after the fatal accident. This raises a serious question: why were these basic precautions not taken before an innocent life was lost?
The family has also expressed concerns over the police investigation and alleged that the contractor is being shielded rather than held accountable. The authorities must ensure a fair, impartial investigation, identify those responsible and take strict legal action wherever negligence is established.
Nikhil’s death should not become just another forgotten accident. A young life has been lost, and accountability must follow.
