In a gripping and unfiltered conversation on The Rishika Show, Deepa Sarpanch discusses some of the most pressing issues affecting Punjab and Haryana. He speaks openly about the commercialization of politics, the contradictions in state drug policies, the alarming rise of gang wars, and the growing moral concerns surrounding social media. He also strongly criticizes prominent Punjabi artists for capitalizing on their roots while promoting vulgarity and charging high prices from their local audiences.

At a time when society is increasingly consumed by digital appearances, Deepa Sarpanch’s recent interview comes across as a stark reality check. Moving beyond the polished image of politics and popular culture, he addresses the uncomfortable issues affecting the region and highlights a society struggling to maintain its moral direction.
The discussion began with the harsh realities of modern elections. Deepa argued that voters cannot expect honest and principled leaders when they themselves ask for bribes, whether in the form of cash, liquor, or drugs in exchange for their votes. According to him, this two-sided corruption creates a dangerous cycle that damages the democratic process from its very foundation.
He connected this hypocrisy to the state’s ongoing battle against narcotics. Deepa questioned the effectiveness of government action, pointing out that while the modest homes of small-time drug peddlers are demolished, powerful and wealthy drug lords continue to remain untouched. He also highlighted the contradiction of a system that publicly promotes the idea of a drug-free state while simultaneously developing policies aimed at increasing liquor sales, despite the destruction addiction can cause to families.
The declining state of law and order was another significant issue. As reports of daytime killings and gangsters brazenly flaunting their illegal activities on social media emerge, anxiety and suspicion have surged among everyday people. Extortion is said to be so prevalent that individuals are hesitant to purchase a new car or build a house, worried they might soon get a ransom demand. Consequently, Deepa mentioned that thriving entrepreneurs and artists are relocating to Dubai for security. He also vehemently condemned the political action of revoking VIP security from artists like Gippy Grewal solely due to their political engagements, labelling it as reckless negligence given the tragic demise of Sidhu Moosewala.
Deepa shifted his focus to digital culture, voicing significant worry about the acceptance of what he referred to as “soft porn” on social media. He encouraged young women to think twice about making revealing “transformation” videos solely for views, stressing that true and enduring success should be founded on respect, not objectification.
The entertainment industry also came under his criticism. Deepa targeted mainstream artists such as Badshah, Diljit Dosanjh, and Honey Singh for incorporating extreme vulgarity into their music, while also pointing towards the shortcomings of the censor board and apologies that often come only after the content has already caused controversy. He similarly criticized Bollywood stars such as Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn for endorsing cancer-causing gutka to millions of people, questioning whether they would ever give those same toxic products to their own children.
Perhaps his strongest criticism was directed towards global Punjabi icons such as Diljit and Karan Aujla. While these artists proudly showcase their Punjabi identity around the world with phrases such as “Punjabi aa gaye oye,” Deepa pointed out that their concerts in Punjab can carry ticket prices ranging from rupees 15,000 to 50,000. He passionately appealed to them to remember the communities they came from and organize at least one affordable or free concert for the local youth whose love and support helped build their enormous success.
In the end, Deepa conveys a clear message to the youth: shift focus from the hollow chase of fake digital fame, hold leaders responsible, and invest your efforts into valuable, honourable work that instils pride in Punjab.
